Kerr Avon School of Advanced Self Defence

Bwa ha ha ha! In Avon’s defense, though, he is a tech, not a soldier.

Yes, my inner fangirl is running loose. These phases would pass a lot more quickly if these people wouldn’t all link to one another, gorrammit.

Blake’s 7. Sort of.

Check out the Blake’s 7 Lego Exhibition!

Scroll half way down, to right after the Liberator’s teleport area. I realize that Kerr Avon has always been a bit stiff. Cold, even. We do like him that way, really. Wouldn’t change him for the world. Fangirls are twisted like that. But made of plastic? That’s a bit much.

Also, nice ORAC.

Nominations Galore

The Inernational Horror Guild announced the nominations for the IHG Awards on June 8, and what do you know? Kelly Link is up in the collection category for Magic for Beginners. Yay, Kelly!

Also, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro has been given their Living Legend Award. Which I find a lovely coincidence, since I just started reading Midnight Harvest the other day.

Guards! Guards! on BBC7

BBC7 is running a six-part radio play of Terry Pratchett’s Guards! Guards! Last Saturday’s episode (number 1) can be heard here (scroll down to 18:00 at the top of the evening schedule).

I think this episode goes away when the new one goes up on Saturday, so check it out now if you’re interested.

Others Stand Up for Wicca

The support for Roberta Stewart’s campaign to have the pentacle placed on her husband Patrick’s military memorial marker is growing. Recently, Americans United for the Separation of Church and State came out in her support, and so did John Whitehead in a recent issue of Christianity Today Magazine.

How long, do you think, will it be before the VA decides that it really does need to do the right thing here?

The Gitmo Suicides

It’s outrageous that anyone working for the US government would say that the suicides at Gitmo this past weekend were “a p.r. move”, but what I find really shocking is that anyone is actually surprised that it’s been said. Maybe I’m just getting too cynical about all of this, but since when do we expect the cogs in the torture machine to think of anyone else as human?

I think these men committed suicide for no other reason than that they fully expected to spend the rest of their lives in that cesspit. Put in their place, I can’t say I wouldn’t do the same.

Happy Birthday, Number Six

Colin Baker as the DoctorColin Baker, the sixth Doctor, turns 63 today.

He’s still playing everyone’s favorite Timelord in Big Finish’s audio dramas and recently he’s been answering questions personally over at the Doctor Who Online Forums (free registration required).

Colin is a real sweetie to all us silly geeks, so I want to wish him a very very happy. And many many more.

AW Returns!

Absolute Write is back! Huzzah! (Ignore that note on the front page — the forums are back as of yesterday.)

Word is that Jenna has lost a good chunk of change in this fiasco, so if you hang out on AW and can afford to do it, contributions would be very appropriate.

Attention Conspiracy Theorists

Aluminum foil helmets actually amplify government mind-control signals.
