It Was Worth a Try

They didn’t pull it off, but at least they tried. And I don’t care whether Kerry did it because it was the right thing to do, or because he’s thinking about running again. The results are the same: someone had to try, and the Massachusetts Senate delegation did that.

Too bad half the Democrats in the Senate don’t seem to understand what Alito’s presence on the Supreme Court is going to do to the rights of women, minorities, and anyone being stomped on by big business. Not to mention the environment.

  1. They said the same thing about Thomas.

I’m just curious. What is it you think will happen to women, miorities and the environment when Alito is confirmed?

And when was the law passed that says no conservatives allowed on the court?

You have to win elections to make appointments. I don’t care if they’re liberal or conservative they must only be qualified for the job.

  2. Honestly, what “they” said about Thomas is irrelevant to this. Two different people at two different point in time. Besides, you have no idea what *I* would have said about him, since I wasn’t blogging back then.

There are 2 issues here for me.

    1. He’s replacing Sandra Day O’Connor, who has been a moderate swing vote, so the balance of the Court is going to change drastically.

    2. He’s not a conservative in my eyes. He’s a *reactionary*. I firmly believe that he will try his damnedest to get Roe overturned, and he will do it because he personally doesn’t like that particular law. The fact that he blatantly avoided saying it was settled law in his confirmation hearings all but proves that. His writings and his judicial history show him to be on the side of corporations rather than people and of women’s having less right to their own bodies than their husbands do. Really, the man is scary.
